Healthy snack: Nestlé Fruit Selection Yogurt

Mabuhay!

Here is something we can all learn from the Mayo Clinic (Can't wait for their Mayo Clinic Diet book: A weight-loss program for life!):

Snacks: How they fit into your weight-loss plan

Well-planned, healthy snacks can complement your weight-loss plan. Here are creative and healthy ways to satisfy your hunger.
By Mayo Clinic staff

Your stomach is growling, but lunch is hours away. You could indulge yourself with a snack, but you think it's best to grit your teeth and wait for lunch. Not so, if weight loss is your goal.

Although you may feel guilty about snacking, snacks aren't necessarily bad. In fact, well-planned weight-loss diets, such as The Mayo Clinic Diet, allow for snacks to help manage hunger and reduce bingeing. Eating a healthy snack of a piece of fruit or some raw veggies can tame your hunger without ruining your appetite for your next meal.

The key to incorporating snacks into your weight-loss plan is to keep moderation and balance in mind.

Choose healthy snacks

Select foods that satisfy your hunger, supply your body with energy and provide important nutrients.

One of my favorite healthy snacks is Nestlé Fruit Selection Yogurt in Buko Pandan. Buko (coconut) is my favorite fruit in the world! Nestlé Fruit Selections also comes in mango, melon and strawberry flavors.

Opt for snacks of 100 calories or less to stay within your daily calorie goal. You can eat more of foods with low energy density, such as carrots, grapes and air-popped popcorn, for your 100 calories. Choose snacks from these food groups:

• Fruits and vegetables. Eating fruits and vegetables provides a feeling of fullness with little to no fat and only a small number of calories. Fruits and vegetables also provide vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients.
• Whole grains. Whole-grain snacks are rich in fiber and complex carbohydrates, which give you energy with staying power. Look for items such as low-fat whole-grain crackers, whole-grain pretzels and whole-grain crispbreads.
• Nuts and seeds. Nuts and seeds provide protein, so you will feel fuller longer. They can be high in fat, but it's mostly monounsaturated, a healthy kind of fat. Nuts and seeds are high in calories, however, so don't eat them in large quantities.
• Low-fat dairy products. Cheese, yogurt and other dairy products are good sources of calcium and protein, plus many other vitamins and minerals. Choose the low-fat versions. Some yogurts have extra added sugar, so look for low-calorie or "light" varieties.

Did you know? Yogurt is #1 on the superfood list. A cup of yogurt has more than 1 billion of Microorganisms that aids in digestion.
The nata de coco bits in the creamy yogurt makes this a delightful snack.

Shoppingero/shoppingera, have you tried eating yogurt? What's your favorite flavor?

I am totally loving your diet posts, Ms. Jenni! <3

Especially now that we have this "Biggest Loser: Family Edition" contest going on in our house :)). But it's main objective is not really losing weight but developing a healthy eating habit and active lifestyle.Part of it is a cooking showdown during sundays in which we have to prepare a very yummy but healthy meal (I am definitely going to borrow some of your recipes :)). Bonding time are major plus points! :))

With the help of your diet posts, I am surely going to win this thing!

Hi ms. jenni! Favorite ko din yang Nestle Fruit Selection yogurt. So yummy + cheap pa than others. Pasok sa budget. ^_^ Whenever i feel depressed/bad mood, yan yun nike-crave ko, then good vibes na ulet pag nakakain ako nyan.. Kulet nga kasi I have a friend that doesnt like yogurt, e strawberry pa yung fave ko *na ayaw din nya*, nagdadamot daw ako.. haha.. di kaya! nishe-share ko naman sa kanya e.. hehe.. :P

I actually like plain yogurts. :)

For a 22yo, that sounds strange. LOL. but what's nice about plain yogurts is getting to eat them the way you like 'em. Most of the time I mix in plain yogurt, cheese and a little garlic, and pop them in the microwave til the cheese melts. I get to have my own version of cream cheese sans the calories from the real thing. (If I use low fat/light cheese, that is. haha!)

BTW Jenni, have you heard of the apple detox diet? :) I'm on it right now. =D

hi ms. jenni!

thanks for another healthy tip!

i discovered your blog just this new year when i followed you on twitter. i do not know you actually, but when i saw in your profile that you're into fitness and fashion, 2 of my goals for this year, i decided to follow you, which then led me to your WONDERFUL WONDERFUL BLOG.

Your blog is so "nakaka-aliw"! I instantly became hooked like a little girl hooked on Harry Potter books and a teenager hooked on Twilight books. I read every post you made in your blog and in mabuhaygirl.multiply.com FOR DAYS! (as in walang patayan ng laptop) I'm so "aliw" talaga.

I tried your recipes and they're all delish and light! my hubby loved me even more. Now, we're all about healthy eating and healthy living, thanks to you!

i'm a first-time, stay-at home mom to a 2-month old baby boy. thus, i also look forward to your "dylan posts". :)

i've been reading other blogs, but they always have the "yabang" thing that always come out on their posts. but you, you're not like them. that's why I made http://welovejenni.blogspot.com my homepage. :)

thanks for sharing your happy, healthy and exciting life to us. you make mommyhood FUN, EXCITING, AND FASHIONABLE! :)
